Description
This yoga class incorporates light weights to tone and strengthen muscles, burn calories, while working on balance and flexibility. Adding weight bearing to traditional yoga poses helps maintain and improve bone density, important to our overall physical health.
For this class, you’ll need hand weights. I suggest starting with a set of 3lb and 5lb weights (males will most likely need to go higher). You can always add heavier weights over time. The class is geared toward light weights with heavy reps, which builds lean muscle, rather than shortened bulk muscle. However, it’s also beneficial to incorporate enough weight bearing to improve bone density, and build muscle strength.
Besides having been certifies in yoga, I have been certified through ACE, AFAA, and AAAI in body mechanics and technique for teaching safe and affective trainings in weight lifting.
